The Hall Health and Longevity Center:
The Advent of Functional Medicine

The Hall Health and Longevity Center Prudence Hall, M.D. who has been featured on both "Oprah" and "Dr. Phil," is a trailblazer in the worlds of optimum health. Her focus is on rejuvenating the body from the inside out. Her Santa Monica based practice, the Hall Health and Longevity Center, offers several programs for men and women to help change their lifestyles, to achieve optimum health in mind, body and spirit.

Dr. Hall, a USC trained gynecologist, has been in practice for 25 years. When she began working with patients, she was unsettled by how much suffering she encountered. The medicines and hormones being used to treat people in America were actually making them worse. Dr. Hall was resolved to change this. In 1982 after discovering that European women had been using bio-identical hormone therapy, she decided to employ it herself.

Today, the Hall Health and Longevity Center focuses on combining hormone therapy with integrated healing and Functional Medicine. According to Dr. Hall, using this combination of methods helps find the core cause of diseases. "Essentially, it creates more tools for patients," she states. "A carpenter with a hammer can keep hammering. But if he has a tool kit, he can build a larger house."

Hormone therapy is particularly helpful to women during menopause which rapidly depletes necessary hormones. "Eight times more women die of heart attacks than breast cancer because of declining hormones such as estrogen," states Dr. Hall, while noting that health problems all feed into one another. The loss of hormones increases inflammation, ultimately leading to higher blood sugar/diabetes, thus increasing the risk of heart disease/stroke.

Yet, when hormones are rebalanced to youthful levels, it is possible to age without these issues. In fact, hormone therapy also offers solutions for physical components of aging, potentially decreasing wrinkles and sagging muscles. Additionally, the thyroid affects skin and hair, while healthy adrenals prevent under-eye circles.

The Hall Health and Longevity Center offers a great deal to patients. The Center has state of the art technology, including the SonoCine and the Thyroflex. The former is a computer guided, radiation-free ultrasound that detects twice the amount of cancer than mammograms can, while the latter detects low thyroid conditions in a matter of minutes.

The Center also offers several programs. The popular "21 Days to Feel 21" program is a prime example of combining Western Medicine, Chinese Medicine, and Homeopathy/Energy Medicine in order to create fantastic results, and "The Optimal Detox Cleanse," helps patients loose the weight that comes with aging.

In September, The Hall Health and Longevity Center is also going to be expanding into a larger space in Venice, California. The expansion will allow for current services and more, including the integration of Aryuveda treatments. "Since we are focusing on disease prevention, one of the Health Modules we're including is a state of the art diagnostic physical," Dr. Hall states, adding that this exam tests 30 to 40 different causes of future disease. The purpose behind such a comprehensive physical is to detect the causes of disease early and then treat them, allowing patients to remain vital and healthy their whole lives.
