Kate Ascott Evans

From Los Muertos to Play Dead

Kate is an alumnus of the prestigious Stella Adler Academy of Acting in Los Angeles who also received a distinction from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LMDA). Such credentials might lead one to assume Kate is one of THOSE actresses who take themselves too seriously. On the contrary, she is a lovely and down-to earth young lady from South Africa who, without the trace of an accent, seems as if she could have been born in Any Town, USA. Dramatic turns, situation comedy and comedy festivals are all in this unique actress's resume of projects. Up next for her is the dark comedy Play Dead.

Kate Ascott Evans

Kate just recently completed filming Play Dead, a feature film written/directed by Jason Wiles and co-written with the film's producer Shem Bitterman. It was Bitterman who brought her to the project and wrote the role of the brothel worker with a heart-of-gold "Molly" specifically for her. Play Dead also stars Chris Klein (Election; American Pie), Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit frontman), Jake Busey, Ayda Field (Studio 60) and Sasha Alexander (NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service).

Kate was cast in the highly-acclaimed Los Angeles play, Sensitive Skin written by Bitterman and produced by Wiles after they saw her amazing portrayal of the character "Blossom" in the 2006 Los Angeles hit play Los Muertos at the Elephant theatre. Los Muertos was co-produced by Mark Ruffalo and the role of the strung out junkie and prostitute was written specifically for her. The play proved to be a huge success both critically and commercially and Kate received great notices. There is a possibility that New York's Abington may have Los Muertos in an upcoming season and talks are underway for Kate to reprise her role as "Blossom" for the off-Broadway opening.

Kate has come a long way from starring in South African sit-coms and European McDonald's commercials to starring in award-winning plays in Los Angeles and New York and feature films such as Joe Killionaire and Play Dead in the United States but she has never forgotten her roots. She is involved in youth programs based in South Africa and is developing a documentary to be shot there.

Kate is a talented and versatile entertainer who moves effortlessly, it seems, from television to stage to film and back again with wonderful portrayals that keep audiences wanting more. Her real life persona is charming and unaffected, sweet and funny, intelligent and creative. She is a breath of fresh air and a young lady with class and talent to spare.
