Squaw Valley, Mammoth & Mt. Rose
In the Eastern Sierra, award-winning The Village at Mammoth (www.intrawestmammoth.com) will add Grand Sierra Lodge bringing additional accommodations and a number of new shops and eateries to the resort that was ranked number nine (up from 12 in 2003) on SKI Magazine's annual reader's poll of the top ski resorts in North America. Interest in Mammoth has now grown considerably as the resort has entered the national big mountain ski scene.
Further north near Lake Tahoe, The Village at Squaw Valley USA (pictured) - (www.thevillageatsquaw.com) is putting the finishing touches on 22 Station, phase two of the resort. A number of new shops and restaurants have been added to provide more options, while more than 280 accommodations are available to visitors. The arrival of The Village has brought the world-class, off-the-slope amenities that winter travelers have been seeking at a Lake Tahoe destination.
Finally, Mt. Rose Ski-Tahoe (www.mtrose.com) will shed its image of being a 'local resort' with the addition of 200 acres of terrain serviced by a new lift. Another new six-passenger high-speed lift handles the East Bowl area of the mountain. The Chutes - long anticipated by avid skiers - will be some of the steepest inbounds terrain in Lake Tahoe, and will radically alter the way snow sports enthusiasts think of Mt. Rose - Ski Tahoe.
