New Program Targets Healthy Lifestyle Combat Chronic Illness
The American lifestyle is taking its toll on the body. Increased daily intake of fats, sugars, and a host of other chemicals are leading to an increase in common, chronic illnesses.
According to the American Medical Heart Association and a recent study just published by the Archives of Internal Medicine, an unhealthy lifestyle is the leading cause of common illnesses such as heart disease, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. But a healthy lifestyle, according to Dobri Kiprov, MD, is also the best way to prevent these diseases.
Dr. Dobri Kiprov is a Harvard trained, internationally renowned immunologist who is expert treating patients with serious conditions. He is Chief of the Division of Immunotherapy at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California and Medical Director of Apheresis Care Group (ACG). It was his work with chronic diseases, and their causes, that got him thinking about the American lifestyle.
"As an immunologist, we began to notice that many of the causes of these life threatening diseases were similar to the causes of a variety of diseases like obesity and diabetes's," Dr. Kiprov explained. "A healthy immune system is crucial for fighting against these chronic illnesses. And our American lifestyle includes many unhealthy ways of living."
Dr. Kiprov's research lead him to develop a program that focused on a healthy lifestyle called "Lifestyle in Motion." This program differs in some key ways, primarily in that it is not a diet program.
"Diets don't actually work in the long run," said Dr. Kiprov. "Strict diets work for a short period of time, but the restriction of caloric intake and nutrients is very difficult to sustain. Eventually, people get off the diet, and it becomes a vicious cycle of dieting and not dieting." Instead of diets, Dr. Kiprov seeks to promote a healthy lifestyle.
He developed a program that includes healthy eating and exercising called Lifestyle in Motion. This program contains four main components. The first, "Knowledge is power", explains the immune system and why a healthyone is so crucial in fighting off diseases. The second component, "food is medicine", focuses on food management and which foods to buy, such as local fruit and vegetables. The third part, "the home advantage" focuses on preparing healthy gourmet meals right in your very own home, most of which can be made in less than twenty minutes. The final component, "life = motion", gives
exercise routines and workouts that are simple, easy, and effective.
"It is targeting the Baby Boomer generation," Dr. Kiprov explains. "From the age of 50 and on is when many start developing the chronic diseases associated with unhealthy lifestyles. Lifestyle in Motion caters to the lifestyle of this group, and it is easy to include the program into their daily routine. The exercises can be done at home. The meals can be made at home. But the great thing about the program is that it works for all age groups."
Dr. Kiprov believes that users will begin to feel the effects almost immediately, and will start to notice real results in less than a month. "They will feel more energized and healthier, and get sick less often as well as get over the cold more quickly. And they will begin to lose weight as well. You are building and maintaining a healthy immune system, and your body will be able to respond more quickly to potential toxins and diseases."
